New Associate Vice President for Educational Effectiveness

Dr. Tamsen Murray has been appointed to a newly created position at Hope International University, the Associate Vice President for Educational Effectiveness.

Dr. Tamsen Murray has been appointed to a newly created position at Hope International University, the Associate Vice President for Educational Effectiveness. In this new role, Dr. Murray will be responsible for all activities related to learning outcomes research, as well as all institutional activities related to accreditation of the University.

Dr. Alexander, Vice President for Academic Affairs states, "Dr. Murray is a veteran leader in Christian higher education. She has distinguished herself in both classroom instruction as well as administration. Tamsen brings a sense of commitment to excellence, scholarship and leadership that will serve us well as she takes charge of all issues related to educational effectiveness at Hope. I'm so pleased she will be on our team."

Dr. Murray has served extensively in Christian higher education in teaching, management, and administrative capacities for over 30 years, including at Azusa Pacific University (APU), Hope International University, and Intermountain Bible College. She currently directs a campus-wide program at APU called GPS @ APU: Growing for Purposeful Service that is funded by the Lilly Endowment Programs. During her time with HIU, she served as both faculty member and as the Registrar.

Her current research focus is in early history of the Training School for Christian Workers (now APU), and she is specifically focusing on the first four presidents, all of whom were women.

"I am excited about the opportunity to put my spiritual priorities, strengths, academic preparation and professional experience to work for the Kingdom of God in support of HIU's mission to empower students through Christian higher education to serve the Church and impact the world for Christ," states Dr. Murray. "I look forward to working on projects that will support the development of learners who can think well, speak well, write well and carry forward the mission of Christ with competence, passion and compassion."

Dr. Murray holds a PhD in Organizational Leadership from Regent University, an M.A. in Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary, a Master of Religious Education from Lincoln Christian Seminary (now Lincoln Christian University), and a B.A. in History and Social Studies Education from the University of Oklahoma. She is a member of Anaheim First Christian Church, where she is a ministry leader for adult education and a ministry team member for neighborhood engagement. She also serves on the Board of Directors for My Safe Harbor, Inc. Dr. Murray began as the Associate VP for Educational Effectiveness on July 1.
