New Book Release, Divorce With Dignity, Outlines Agreed Divorce Process for Older Couples
AUSTIN, Texas, July 19, 2019 (Newswire.com) - As brides and grooms throughout the country head down the aisle this summer and fall, they can do so with a little added confidence. After all, the divorce rate among younger adults has steadily declined since 2008. Yet the outlook is not as bright for those 50 and older, who are divorcing at a rate that has nearly doubled since the 1990s.
The new book, Divorce with Dignity, by wealth manager, Chris Heerlein, and family attorney, James W. Evans, aims to help that set honor their long-time marriage through an amicable split termed, Agreed Divorce. The book outlines the Agreed Divorce process and benefits using an easy to follow step-by-step guide along with case-studies from those who chose this option versus those that followed the more typical contested approach. The authors say this amicable option is less costly financially and, as importantly, emotionally and time-wise.
“Divorce is hard. No matter what. But for couples that have spent nearly a lifetime together, it can be especially complicated. They have accumulated assets together - and debt, raised families, built businesses and are intertwined in ways that younger couples are not,” said Heerlein. “We wrote this book for them. We believe that gray divorce – which is a divorce after 25 years of marriage or more - can honor that history and what is best for them and their family using the Agreed Divorce process.”
“In a prolonged and adversarial divorce there are no winners,” said Evans. “Families are divided, bank accounts drained and bad feelings are lasting. Agreed Divorce instead helps couples approach their split as a close to an important chapter of one stage of their life that gives both individuals more freedom. It lets them honor their past and respect their family as a whole instead of being forced to follow a process that disregards that.”
Heerlein is the founder of a family office that helps private business owners, top-level executives and affluent individuals with wealth planning, and offers financial and investment consulting, advanced tax planning, and business succession planning. Evans is principal of his private practice, which concentrates exclusively on family law. His career has included service as a criminal prosecutor and civil litigator and in legislative practice.
“Agreed Divorce is not right for everyone, and this book also helps readers decide that. And while the book is especially relevant to older couples, the approach is applicable to younger couples who have decided to part ways,” added Heerlein.
Divorce with Dignity is available on Amazon in paperback ($9.99) or for Kindle (from $.99).
