New Book "Unleash the Rebel Within" Maps Out An Unconventional Path
Online, March 19, 2014 (Newswire.com) - Therapist Rebecca Newel believes the rebellious side of human nature, which lurks deep inside even the most conventional of people, is a powerful and important creative force. Not only that, the rebel spirit encourages a greater sense of self-worth, empowerment and vitality. Her recently released book, "Unleash the Rebel Within," explores how anyone can rediscover their authentic self via their inner rebel.
"Your inner rebel can help you discover who you really are," explained Newel. "If you feel that life has become stagnant or predictable then engaging with the rebellious side of your personality can open up new doorways, enabling levels of confidence and fulfillment you never thought possible."
In her work as a therapist, Newel encountered many people who weren't finding much satisfaction in their lives. In particular, members of the LGBT community who had grown up in strongly conservative households sometimes found adult life more stifling than they expected; they had trouble mentally breaking free from the conservatism and rigid expectations of their childhood and teenage years.
The idea of "unleashing" the "inner rebel" grew out of these sessions, but the core lessons apply to anyone who feels disconnected from their creativity and individuality. Newel's book covers topics ranging from self-acceptance to finding one's "inner weirdo."
Modern society often discourages individualism and puts more emphasis on conformity. The pressure to conform comes from several sources, including parents, teachers, extended family and images in the media. Trouble arises when people quash their individuality as part of the urge to conform and please everyone else in their lives. Bending oneself into a shape that others expect is not a plan for long-term mental wellbeing and satisfaction.
Accessing one's inner rebel does not mean breaking the law or hurting oneself. Illegal, immoral or otherwise destructive behaviors are not what Newel is advocating.
She added: "My hope with this book is that people learn to listen to the nonconforming voice inside of them. When we give that voice an outlet, we open up the possibility of a fuller, more meaningful and happier life. It's the rebel inside us that sees a higher purpose in life, and we suffer when we don't pay it heed."
"Unleash the Rebel Within" is published by Avanda LLC. and is currently available on Amazon. com.
