New Children's book celebrates India's universal culture and heritage

Clovis, CA - The newly published book, The Nightingale Sings in India, by author Harjot Singh brings discovery of India to children and parents. The book is fiction for ages 8 and above. It is first in the series, Adventures Through the Door.

"Did you ever ask yourself what would be a fun way for you and your children to learn about India?," said Singh, "not just memorizing boring facts or watching unrealistic portrayal from TV or movies. From my own childhood, I remember the magical stories that enthralled me. They became a part of me and I never saw them as 'Indian' or 'non-Indian'. The Nightingale Sings in India has an Indian context, yet on a bigger scale, the book is universal that belongs in our multicultural world. The story is about two children living in present day USA going through a magical door and experiencing a story that has inspired the rest of the world."

Early readers and reviewers love the book. "A good book stirs your emotions, and The Nightingale Sings in India did just that!" said Bindia, mother and middle school teacher; "It left me with a smile on my lips and tears in my eyes! The book incorporates values of culture, patriotism and curiosity."

"I learned interesting facts about India. Fantastic book with many mysteries and laughs. You didn't expect what would happen next," said ten-year-old Hayden.

Letty Hernandez, mother of two, said that the book provided her and her son with an opportunity to appreciate India's rich history, "I had no idea that Indian people had to go through so much. Once we started reading it, we could not put it down."

A reviewer on Amazon.com wrote, "It touches the gap of Indians living abroad, and Indians living in present day India have. A must read for Indians living abroad trying to teach their children about their heritage. The author is a child psychiatrist and has written beautifully, at a level and in a language children 8 years and older can understand. I would highly recommend it."

To help teachers and parents have a good discussion with children, there is a free discussion guide available on the website www.adventuresthroughthedoor.com.

Harjot Singh lives in Central California with his wife and two children.
