Online, March 5, 2011 (Newswire.com) - Dr. Richard Schechtman, an orthodontist in Jefferson Valley, New York, has partnered with Westchester Jewish Community Services (WJCS) to create a seminar that speaks to the concerns of men going through marital separation or divorce. The free event "New Horizons for Divorcing and Separated Men" will be held on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at the WJCS office in White Plains, NY.
The event was born out of Dr. Schechtman's participation in the Self Expression and Leadership program with Landmark Education. Landmark Education is an international company offering programs for personal development and empowerment.
"Having gone through the divorce process I recognized an unmet need for men. Women tend to remain socially well-connected with friends in spite of the demands of being a parent, running a household and managing a career," said Dr. Schechtman. "Men on the other hand, can be more isolated and immersed in their careers, but don't make the time to maintain friendships outside of their families."
"Separating from your partner can leave a void in your life that is raw and painful," continued Dr. Schechtman. "Emotional, financial, legal and parental issues can become overwhelming and without support, it can affect your health, ability to work and cope."
This special evening is an opportunity for men going through a separation or divorce to get information and guidance from a panel of experts including Dr. Jonah Shrag, clinical psychologist & divorce mediator; Neil Kozek, matrimonial attorney & founder of the New York Collaborative Law Group; Rabbi Aaron Brusso, inspirational speaker & clergy at Bet Torah Synagogue in Mount Kisco; and Jane Slevin, marriage & family therapist and coordinator of WJCS Family Caregiver Network. Participants will have the opportunity to network with other men with similar concerns.
Westchester Jewish Community Services is a not-for-profit agency, helping people cope with the effects of mental, physical, social and educational challenges. The event is a WJCS Partners in Caring Program in partnership with Bet Torah Synagogue, funded by the UJA Federation.
New Horizons for Divorcing and Separated Men will take place on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at Westchester Jewish Community Services, 845 North Broadway in White Plains from 7PM to 9PM. Refreshments will be served. Admission is free; seating is limited; reservations required. For reservations and information call Susan Kronish at 914 761-0600 x147 or email [email protected].
