New Infographic and Website Urge Radon Awareness and Action
Radon is everywhere, but it is most hazardous in one's own home, where levels can build silently over time and can cause lung cancer. Spruce Environmental Technologies, Inc. has created a website, www.radonisreal.org, and commissioned an infographic, to educate the public about radon.
Ward Hill, MA, February 1, 2015 (Newswire.com) - January is National Radon Action Month. Radon is the number one environmental health threat in the United States. Like carbon monoxide, radon is an invisible, odorless gas that can be fatal when trapped in the home. However, where carbon monoxide only accounts for 430 deaths per year, radon exposure kills more than 21,000 people annually in the U.S. alone.
Radon is everywhere, but it is most hazardous in one’s own home, where levels can build silently over time and can cause lung cancer. One out of every 6 homes is affected by dangerous levels of radon, and radon can occur in any home, old or new. The only way to know if your home is affected by this harmful, invisible gas is to test for it.
There is currently no major domestic mandate to empower homeowners with the knowledge and resources necessary to protect their families from radon. To help raise radon awareness and encourage testing, Spruce Environmental Technologies, Inc. has created a website, www.radonisreal.org, and commissioned an infographic, with the sole purpose of educating people about radon and the need for proper testing. Even with no previous awareness of the dangers of radon, homeowners can come away from radonisreal.org confident in their new knowledge and ready to take action to protect their homes.
Despite U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) radon awareness efforts, radon myths continue. The EPA recommends installing a radon mitigation system in homes that test above 4 pCi/l. However, at 4 pCi/l, a family is exposed to the equivalent to 35 times more radiation than the Nuclear Regulatory Commission allows at a fence surrounding a radioactive waste site. Radon accounts for 37% of radiation exposure in the U.S. There is no safe level of radon in the home.Important facts like these, along with informative images, are included in Spruce’s “Radon Is Real” infographic, located on the radonisreal.org website, which presents this information in a manner that is impactful and accessible to all homeowners. As Radon Action Month comes to a close, it is important that these resources are made available to families, not just to industry professionals. Consider the threat that this harmful gas poses to our nation’s families, and the positive impact our infographic will make on your audience. There is no better time to take action and educate homeowners.
