New Joomla Demo Site
Online, May 11, 2010 (Newswire.com) - New York, New York, May 11, 2010 - Open Source Matters, Inc. (OSM), the not-for-profit organization that supports the Joomla! Project, today announced that it has partnered with CloudAccess.net to offer new community members a free and dedicated Joomla Demo Site. The new demo site leverages a cloud-based solution and gives each user a separate 30-day trial account to manage and build custom Joomla sites. After 30 days, a user can easily migrate the site to another host, or sign up with CloudAccess.net for an ongoing account - with a percentage of the hosting cost returned back to the Joomla Project.
Previously, new users experienced Joomla in a multiuser sandbox. This resulted in content constantly being overwritten by other users and a complete reset of the sandbox every 30 minutes. The new demo site allows users to maintain the integrity of their content, and continue to build and learn over an extended trial period. Some key features of the new demo site include: free, complete, dedicated version of the Joomla Open Source CMS; no installation required - sign up and start building; and complete demo site customization capabilities.
"Our old demo site attracted a staggering 3,000 to 6,000 new visitors per day, with close to 800 per day logging in to evaluate the shared version of Joomla. Not only did the multiuser sandbox demo site require significant internal resources to maintain, but it also provided an inadequate environment for new community members to most effectively learn and explore the application," said Ryan Ozimek, President of Open Source Matters, Inc. "The new site, created in partnership with CloudAccess.net, has all the standard features of Joomla and gives each user a completely dedicated space to experience Joomla - without having content lost or overwritten. As we move closer to the launch of Joomla 1.6, this new site will be a valuable tool for educating new users."
The Joomla Demo Site uses CloudAccess.net's custom cloud environment. Designed with the latest cloud technology, CloudAccess.net uses an object-based, distributed file system called Lustre (SAN), Nginx Load Balancers, and Apache web servers. The setup was custom built for the Joomla CMS with a custom control panel built to measure each site's usage on the clusters. The infrastructure gives users the ability to scale a Joomla build without touching a server. To date, CloudAccess.net has built one of the largest shared clustered environments for the Joomla CMS. Its technology has the ability to scale to thousands of nodes with petabytes (equivalent to 1 million GB) of storage capacity without compromising speed, security, or availability.
"We love Joomla and the community, and our company is completely focused on helping organizations and users leverage this open source technology. The new demo site is a huge step forward for the Joomla community, and gives users ownership of their demo space and content," said Gary Brooks, CEO of CloudAccess. "Our entire team has been planning and working tirelessly to ensure the site meets the high standards set by the Joomla community. We're extremely excited to be involved with the team at OSM and the community members."
Users who continue with CloudAccess.net after the free trial will enjoy additional features and services at no charge, such as: setup of Google Apps, Google Analytics and Google Webmaster tools, built-in hosting control panel, automatic backups, and automatic upgrades.
Joomla is a free, award-winning PHP-based content management system that enables users to build Websites and powerful online applications. The platform's ease-of-use and extensibility has made it one of the most popular and downloaded open source Website software packages in the industry (to date, it has been downloaded more than 16 million times). Joomla is used for everything from small personal Websites to the backend management for some of the largest enterprises and highest traffic sites on the Web.
