Open House Workshops
In a series of Open House workshops in April and May entitled "Peace of the World", Atlantis Centers Montessori School will allow parents and children to experience Maria Montessori's methodology first hand. Parents will be able to observe their children "playing" with Montessori learning materials, after which the children will join a Montessori activity such as, Arts and Crafts, Science and Nature, or Languages. In the meantime parents will attend a workshop with the school's Executive Director, during which they will experience Maria Montessori's philosophy and be able to ask questions about the school and the Montessori International teaching methodology.
The Open House Workshops will be held on the following dates and times:
Thursday April 7th from 6.30 pm - 8:30 pm
Sunday April 24th from 1:00 pm - 4:30 pm
Sunday May 15th from 1:00 pm - 4:30 pm
The Story behind Atlantis Centers Montessori School
Two years ago, Atlantis Healthcare Group, a team of physicians and therapists working with children with learning disabilities and the Board Members of Atlantis Centers Inc Board, which provides educational and research services to parents of children with disabilities, found they were constantly hitting a wall in trying to create an optimum environment for the children they worked with and starting talking about possibly starting their own school. Fast forward to April 2011, Atlantis Centers Montessori School in Tinton Falls is ready to welcome young globe trotters to its series of summer camp programs as well as the new school year starting this fall.
"I knew how important it was for my children to be in a natural toxin-free environment and to eat food free of harmful chemicals and preservatives, and envisioned a school that would provide them with the education they need while making their environment toxin free and their food were devoid of harmful preservatives and refined sugar. At Atlantis Centers Montessori School we nurture both the mind and the body and provide an environment that allows children to flourish and reach their full potential." said Dr. Ayoub-Fadil.
What is Special about the Montessori Methodology?
An authentic Montessori educational approach follows self directed learning using hands-on educational materials that rely on the senses. It fosters self confidence and independence while supporting each child to reach her full potential.
"The founders of Atlantis Centers Montessori School believe in the holistic environment of the Montessori philosophy and furthermore we believe that now more than ever our society needs self confident critical thinkers rather than followers and memorizers. We chose to be a certified International Montessori school, which emphasizes the hands-on approach and pays special attention to the natural environment and living in harmony with nature." said Dr. Ayoub-Fadil.
Distinguishing Features of a Montessori Classroom
• A Montessori classroom is child-centered rather than teacher centered. Unlike in a traditional school where children are expected to pay attention to the teacher, it is the teacher who is trained to observe each individual child.
• The curriculum is highly individualized to each child's interests and learning ability and fosters love for learning by nurturing sparks of curiosity, creativity, and intelligence.
• A wide variety of beautiful, hands-on learning materials help children learn.
• The children are very independent. We teach children to care for their own needs as well as the environment they live in. Once a child masters these basic skills, her demeanor becomes one of self-accomplishment and self-confidence
A first time observer of a Montessori classroom, will be very surprised to see each child independently going about his activity with little interference from the teacher. A Montessori environment provides independence and encourages children to develop the skills that they need to become contributing members of society and the world at large.
