New Online Educational Program Announced: Living With Multiple Sclerosis
DURHAM, N.C., March 29, 2019 (Newswire.com) - According to the National MS Society, approximately one million people in the United States have multiple sclerosis - more than double the number of people than previously thought. Pro-ficiency announces a free interactive online program, developed in collaboration with the Consortium of Multiple Sclerosis Centers (CMSC) and ASiM, to educate individuals living with MS and their care partners about MS. The program is designed to empower and encourage those living with MS to be active participants in their own care.
"Multiple Sclerosis is an incredibly complex disease. Individuals living with MS, family members, and care partners can be easily overwhelmed by the amount of new information they receive. This program is designed by and for individuals living with MS, families and MS advocates. Our goal is to ease the burden of those living with MS by helping them become informed, empowered and activated partners in their care,” says JoAnne Schaberick, Co-CEO of Pro-ficiency.
The program, Living with Multiple Sclerosis, allows users to select and view short videos on a variety of MS-related topics, including diagnosis, approaches to treatment with information on available DMTs (disease modifying therapies), and helpful tips on communicating effectively with healthcare providers. This “choose your own adventure” approach helps individuals living with MS and care partners tailor a simulated doctor visit according to their own interests, needs, and concerns.
“Dealing with a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis can feel overwhelming,” says Jessica F. Marshall, Ph.D., Executive Medical Director at ASiM. Jessica continues, “There are so many treatment options and symptoms that can impact life, it can be difficult to know which option is the best for any one person. This convenient program will help people living with MS and their care partners understand more about their diagnosis, treatment options, symptom management, and will provide tools and resources to allow them to engage more confidently with their healthcare providers.”
June Halper, APN-C, the CEO of CMSC adds, “The CMSC is proud of our educational partnership with ASiM. This unique program, designed for the MS community, is a landmark educational event.”
