New RFID Antenna Design for Mid-Range Coverage

RFID antenna designs for US models cover 902-928 MHz with Right Hand Circular Polarity.

Schiller Park, IL, Mobile Mark has recently introduced several Patch Antennas for mid-range reading. The PN6 Series Patch Antennas are available for both the 868 MHz and the 915 MHz RFID bands.

RFID antenna designs for US models cover 902-928 MHz with Right Hand Circular Polarity. Models for Europe and many other parts of the world cover 865-870 MHz with Left Hand Circular Polarization.

The Patch Antenna is intended for mid-range coverage and is typically used in conjunction with a fixed RFID Reader portal. The PN6 features 6 dBi gain with a beamwidth of 80-degrees elevation and 80-degrees azimuth. This style RFID antenna design covers a broad area, making it easy to align for optimum coverage.

The rugged radome makes it well suited for industrial applications. The ASA radome is both impact resistant and UV resistant. The PN6 RFID antenna design will withstand a conventional water spray and meets water ingress IPx5 ratings.

"As the RFID applications evolve, we are seeing requests for a larger variety of reader antennas. For example, antennas that provide either near field coverage or longer distance coverage." according to Ken Lukowski, VP Sales. "The new PN6 Series is ideal for mid-range applications which require an RFID antenna design with a slim profile. This antenna is commonly used with RFID portals or conveyor belts. It can easily be used in industrial applications."

The PN6 Series antenna is praised for its small size (less than 6" square) and effective level of gain.

This RFID antenna design is typically supplied with 6-inches of RG-58 cable and an SMA plug (male) connector. Connectors may vary per customer request. The antenna is operational from -40°to +85° Celsius and can handle a maximum power of 10 watts.

There are multiple mounting options for this antenna including pole-mounting (up to 2 ½ inches, or 5 cm, outside diameter of the pole) or wall-mounted with a swivel mounting bracket that allows for both vertical and horizontal adjustment.
