New Texas State Student Housing Near Campus to Open in August
Texas State University students looking for housing to avoid a long commute to class will soon be able to live close to campus at Vistas San Marcos.
Online, February 19, 2013 (Newswire.com) - With long traffic delays and overloaded buses, Texas State University students have been looking for housing options within walking distance of campus and Vistas San Marcos hopes to fill that need when it opens in August.
When Vistas San Marcos at 401 North Fredericksburg Street opens, it will be the closest private student housing facility to Texas State University campus. The six-story mid-rise will have three floors of underground parking, premier amenities, 598 beds and 257 units that will be leased "by the bed" to Texas State students with one- to five-bedroom apartment options.
Commute time to class has been a growing concern for those in Texas State student housing -- bus delays are already long, and the overpass construction slated to begin in December is intended to reduce traffic delays once it is completed in January 2015 but will initially cause more delays during construction.
"We have spoken to many students that are upset about the length of time it takes to get class utilizing the Bobcat Tram," Vistas San Marcos property manager Becky Bates said. "Students are eager to have more housing options closer to campus, and we have had amazing feedback at Vistas about the close proximity to campus."
Other student housing projects currently under construction are not close to campus, and there are currently no plans to add buses to accommodate more passengers in those areas.
Construction of Vistas San Marcos began in November 2012 and is scheduled to be completed by August 15, 2013. The housing facility is being developed and constructed by Skyline Commercial and its Owner, Stephen Haug. The community is managed by Core Campus. As the first San Marcos project for both Core Campus and Mr. Haug, both hope to create Texas State student apartments that can serve student needs by offering top amenities and a location that is just a few steps from classes, nightlife, restaurants and shopping.
Vistas San Marcos will have several premier amenities for student residents to enjoy, including two rooftop lounges, a 24-hour internet cafe, a 24-hour fitness center, group fitness on demand, a hammock garden, an outdoor grilling area, a tanning salon, a 16-foot portable projector screen and courtyards. In addition, the pool deck will have a 60-inch outdoor TV, pool-side party room, private cabanas and a layout pool.
The leasing office is currently located at 409 Comanche Street and can be reached at 512-667-7726, [email protected] or http://www.VistasSanMarcos.com/.
Skyline Companies are currently involved in the ownership, development and construction of several student housing projects throughout the Central Texas region. Their current expectation is to have more than 1,500 beds leased in various projects by the beginning of the 2014-2015 academic year. The collaboration with Core Campus is a conscious decision to work with like-minded professionals with an in-depth knowledge of the student housing niche and a long and positive history of creating student communities that matter.
Core Campus also currently has projects under construction for student occupancy in 2013 at Arizona State University in Tempe and the University of Mississippi in Oxford. For Fall 2014, Core Campus is working on a development at the University of Arizona in Tucson and at the University of South Carolina in Columbia.
