New Virtual Monitoring Solution From Initsys Slashes The Costs Of Setting Up Security Control Rooms

NASCOM provides a virtual monitoring solution that reduces costs and enables security control room operators to extend the range of services they provide

Initsys, Europe's leading provider of verified alarm technology, has announced the immediate availability of the Initsys NASCOM, a new Multi Protocol Receiver. This unique solution will enable organisations to slash the cost of setting up central control rooms as well as delivering significant cost savings on connecting to commonly used alarm transmission systems including Redcare, Dualcom and Emizon. NASCOM provides a virtual monitoring solution that will enable local authorities, security guarding companies, retail, logistics and commercial organisations to extend the range of services they provide and deliver a rapid return on investment.

The Initsys NASCOM is a software-based solution that replaces the myriad servers traditionally required to run multiple monitoring services. It runs on purpose-built, 2u high servers each of which has the capacity to replace up to 24 dedicated receivers. This not only frees up space in busy control rooms, but it will also result in lower ongoing running costs in terms of management and maintenance costs. This powerful new software solution is also compatible with existing analogue, digital and IP-based CCTV cameras along with most commonly used brands of DVR. This enables the operational capability of an existing security network to be enhanced without having to upgrade the whole system.

Access to all commonly used alarm transmission protocols, including Redcare, Dualcom, Paknet, CSL, Modeus, Emizon and more, is available over dual 2mb connections to a resilient 40mbps backbone at three datacentres in London, Manchester and Derby. They provide 24/7 access with triple redundancy as standard. All signals are recorded on the network with a full audit trail available for analysis. Each connection costs £3K and provides sufficient capacity for up to 5000 different alarms. Initsys bears all costs of connecting to the network and usage is charged for on a pay as you go basis. To extend the functionality and operational life of the system Initsys will ensure that all new communications protocols that are developed will be added to the network at no extra cost to users.

According to Chris Berry, Managing Director of Initsys: "At a time when local authorities, security guarding and other commercial organisations are looking to cut costs across the board, the new Initsys NASCOM will deliver significant savings. It enables control room services to be brought in-house at a fraction of the cost of paying alarm companies to monitor intruder alarms in diverse locations without impacting on the level of monitoring provided."

The NASCOM also allows organisations to extend the services provided by existing control rooms by including the monitoring of existing intruder alarms installed at a wide range of premises. For example, local authorities can monitor council offices, town halls, local amenities, schools, nursing homes, social housing, churches and village halls to provide a faster keyholder response and, when combined with mobile guarding, deliver a faster response to alarm activations without having to deal with traditional monitoring companies.

The University of Portsmouth is one of the first organisations in the UK to deploy the Initsys NASCOM. It is enabling the on-site control room to monitor intruder alarms around the clock at two separate campuses across the city as well as the University's representative office in London.

Chris Beaman, Control Room Manager at the University of Portsmouth, commented that: "The Initsys system is enabling us to react faster and ensure that security guards have real-time information on which to act as well as leaving the operator more time to call the appropriate emergency services. It is at the core of our strategic emergency plans enabling all systems to be monitored and controlled from anywhere on the University's network in the event of the control room being out of action and helping to provide a safe and secure learning environment for every student and staff member."
