Online, April 26, 2010 (Newswire.com) - An innovative UK travel website offers 101 ideas for short breaks both at home and abroad. 101 Short Breaks employs a unique form of visual search, allowing users to hover over a grid of images to discover holiday ideas. "It's like flicking through a holiday brochure, but on a single web page," says co-founder and editor Mark Hodson.
The site features an exciting range of short break ideas - everything from a National Trust working holiday, which could involve repair dry-stone walls in Yorkshire, to a private jet holiday to France.
"Many of these holidays aren't featured on other travel websites. We were determined to dig out some real gems," says Hodson.
Quirky trips include a woodcraft and survival skills weekend in Dartmoor, and learning to paddleboard in Cornwall. Unusual accommodation options on the site include renting a lighthouse keeper's cottage and staying in a tipi in the West Country.
The site also features more conventional short breaks such as the Lake District and B&Bs in Dorset. City breaks are featured, but not the usual choice of Paris, Barcelona and Rome. Instead, the cities suggested include Seville, Riga, Lille, Avignon and Belgrade.
Trips can be searched by destination, price or personal criteria. For instance, users can select "I want to learn something", or "I want to be pampered".
101 Short Breaks is the sister site to the award-winning 101 Holidays, named by The Times as one of Top 10 Travel Websites of 2009. A third site, 101 Honeymoons, will shortly be launched.
