New World Kickball Champion Crowed at World's Largest Kickball Tournament
Online, October 13, 2009 (Newswire.com) - LAS VEGAS (Oct. 12, 2009) - "The Others" from Washington D.C. emerged from a grueling day of single elimination match play against the nation's best adult kickball teams to claim the coveted championship title at the 2009 World Kickball Championship® Founders Cup®.
"The Others" defeated the San Francisco "Best Coast Ballers" 3-1 in five innings with a line drive catch at second base.
The 12th annual tournament took place on Saturday, Oct. 10 at Desert Breeze Park in Las Vegas, where 72 teams from all corners of the United States converged to compete for the title of world kickball champions. Each team punched their tickets for Vegas by being of the best in its local division.
"WAKA Kickball congratulates 'The Others' on winning one of the most prestigious titles in sports," said David Lowry, co-founder of WAKA. "The World Kickball Championships is all about competition, camaraderie and most importantly, fun times. And what's more fun than a trip to Vegas and the opportunity to claim top bragging rights for the entire year?"
Kickball once lived and died on the school playground, but in 1998, WAKA turned the kid's game into a full-fledged sport by creating the first organized, widespread co-ed adult kickball league. Today, WAKA is the world's largest adult kickball organization with thousands of teams across most major cities in the U.S., as well as internationally in London and Iraq.
Anyone who is interested in signing up to play WAKA Kickball for a chance to compete in year year's tournament can visit kickball.com for more information on how to find a team near them.
