Eagle, ID, January 12, 2015 (Newswire.com) - New Year. New Resolutions. Less Sugar!
ShowMeTheSugar helps consumers find the hidden sugar hiding in the pantry and everyday foods.
"Most people don't understand or relate to grams, as a measure. When it comes to sugar, consumers tend to think in terms of teaspoons — like those sprinkled on cereal and stirred into coffee. This is the kind of problem we love to solve at Lucidity Solutions — we take information that is transparent but hard to relate to and then use technology to make it easier to understand so it can influence food choices and behavior."
Laurie Coots, Marketing Lead
Lucidity Solutions, LLC., announced the launch of their new app ShowMeTheSugar, now available for Android and iOS 8, in the GooglePlay and iTunes app Store for 99¢.
As easy as taking a photo, ShowMeTheSugar can use the camera input on a mobile device to scan a barcode on any food package, or respond to a typed entry to reveal how many grams of added sugar is contained in a serving of the food. More importantly, the app displays the results of any search in a visualization of teaspoons, which make more sense to most consumers.
Says Laurie Coots, Marketing Lead for Lucidity Solutions, LLC., “When we were researching how consumers were reading labels and using nutritional information, we discovered a disconnect. Most people don’t understand or relate to grams, as a measure. When it comes to sugar, consumers tend to think in terms of teaspoons — like those sprinkled on cereal and stirred into coffee. This is the kind of problem we love to solve at Lucidity Solutions — we take information that is transparent but hard to relate to and then use technology to make it easier to understand so it can influence food choices and behavior.”
ShowMeTheSugar is equally at home scanning products in the home pantry, or while shopping at the grocery store. The app even has applications in educating children on how to make healthier food purchases based on understanding the sugar content of foods. The developers of the app recommend a good place to start, is by launching a “sugar safari” in the home pantry, Having a good understanding of the amount of hidden sugar in a consumer's favorite foods, is a good place to start in managing a healthy overall sugar intake.
Not only does the app expose hidden sugar in everything from salad dressing to spaghetti sauce, it has added features including the ability to declare a food a Favorite, to enter foods into a Sugar Diary and to track sugar intake daily and over time. Users can set daily sugar goals for themselves and monitor against their sugar consumption with easy to understand daily visualization. The app comes preset using the American Heart Association recommendation of nine (9) teaspoons a day for men and six (6) teaspoons a day for women. Users who currently are eating more than the recommended amount, can set goals for themselves and cut back their sugar intake over time.
ShowMeTheSugar is an app born to promote discovery, realization and sharing. When a user finds that their favorite hot cereal has 15 grams or 3 teaspoons of added sugar, they are shocked and want to tell their friends. The app has built in buttons for Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Pinterest, eMail, and Messages — to make it fast, easy and intuitive to share those discoveries with friends and personal network.
