New York Virtuoso Singers Quintet Makes its Long Island Debut at Adelphi University

Garden City, NY, September 22, 2014 (Newswire.com) - The New York Virtuoso Singers Quintet, led by founder and conductor Harold Rosenbaum, will make their Long Island debut at the Adelphi University Performing Arts Center (AUPAC) on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at 8:00 p.m. in the AUPAC Concert Hall at 1 South Avenue, Garden City. Founded in 1988, the New York Virtuoso Singers is established as leaders in contemporary American music and exponent of contemporary choral music. The professional choir is regularly invited to perform at prestigious institutions.

The Quintet will deliver an exciting performance and program that spans across many styles and genres—ranging from classical to jazz, pre-hip hop to folk, Broadway and spirituals—and present music from different countries and eras. Featured works include: “Fugue in D Major” by Bach, “With Drooping Wings” by Purcell, “Harmony in Marriage” by Haydyn, Beethoven’s Fastaferell, Moravec’s “Greater Love”, as well as works by Monteverdi and Stravinsky, plus renaissance madrigals and motets, popular folk songs and spirituals. Joining the New York Virtuoso Singers for a part of this program, will be Michael Hume, the program and recruitment coordinator of the Department of Music at Adelphi University. Mr. Hume is a New York Virtuoso Singers alum and sang with them in the late 1980s and early 1990s. As a professional singer and actor, Mr. Hume performed in musical theatre, opera, drama, oratorio and recitals. His teaching career at Adelphi began in 1990 as a voice instructor.

The New York Virtuoso Singers is a recipient of many honors, including the prestigious ASCAP-Chorus America “Award for Adventuresome Programming of Contemporary Music” for four times and the Chorus America’s “American Choral Works Performance Award.” They have collaborated with The Brooklyn Philharmonic, The American Composers Orchestra, The Juilliard Orchestra, The Orchestra of St. Luke’s, and The American Symphony, among others. Harold Rosenbaum is one of the most accomplished, versatile, and critically-acclaimed choral conductors of our time. He won the 2014 Ditson Conductor’s Award from Columbia University. He is also lead choral conductor for Parma Recordings, and a Soundbrush Records artist. Mr. Rosenbaum is a strong proponent of and advocate for contemporary American composers and has commissioned more than 60 works, and has conducted more than 475 world premieres. For his contribution to the American music landscape, he was bestowed the ASCAP’s Victor Herber Founders Award in 2010 and the 2008 American Composer Alliance’s Laurel Leaf Award.
