NEXT Swimwear and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation present 4th annual NEXT National SUP Day - June 20, 2015

Events will be held in Newport Beach, Calif., Chicago, Ill., Palm Beach, Fla., and Raleigh, N.C. to celebrate the activity of standup paddleboarding and promote awareness for children and families living with cystic fibrosis.

NEXT Swimwear – an active-inspired women’s collection integrating swim, fitness, and fashion – is proud to announce the 4th Annual NEXT National SUP Day at Newport Aquatic Center on Saturday, June 20, 2015 from 9:00am-12:30pm. The event celebrates stand up paddle boarding and raises awareness of Cystic Fibrosis (CF) and their Pipeline to a Cure campaign. CF is a genetic disease that affects 30,000 children and adults in the United States and 70,000 worldwide. Chronic symptoms include a buildup of mucus and congestion in the respiratory and digestive systems which can cause severe infections, breathing difficulties and malnutrition. With events held in cities throughout the United States, more than 5,000 people have participated in National SUP Day, and this year will be the biggest event to date thanks to the efforts of sponsors and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF) chapters around the US.

The unique relationship between the ocean-sports industry and Cystic Fibrosis has grown from the discovery that CF patients who surfed and paddle boarded experienced a decreased severity of symptoms. It was determined that the saltwater mist surfers regularly inhaled helped lubricate their lungs and eased chronic congestion. Since then, breakthrough therapies using saltwater mist have been developed and are showing significant promise for CF patients everywhere. National SUP Day was created to spread the news of the new research findings, raise awareness of the organization, and to stage a fun event that is accessible to people of all ages, skill and fitness levels.

"National SUP Day has been an amazing event over the past three years and helped raise awareness of Cystic Fibrosis to bring us closer to a cure," said James Goodson, executive director of the Orange County Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. "We are so thankful for Raj Manufacturing and NEXT Swimwear for their leadership and generosity through National SUP Day. They have changed the lives of many CF children and families throughout the country."

NEXT Swimwear has a long-standing partnership with the CFF. Annually, a percentage of NEXT Swimwear sales is donated to the organization in support of their Pipeline to a Cure initiative.

This year, SUP Day events are scheduled to take place in Chicago, IL; Newport Beach, CA; Palm Beach, FL; and Raleigh, NC. At each event, professional and avid stand-up paddlers will hold free clinics for children afflicted with CF. Chicago and Newport Beach events are free and open-to-the-public. Additional events and local Meet-up groups around the U.S. are expected to "pop-up" the day of the event. It is a fun, active day for the entire family, with food, giveaways and education and outreach booths from our sponsors.

“National SUP Day has been an amazing event over the past three years and helped raise awareness of Cystic Fibrosis to bring us closer to a cure,” said James Goodson, executive director of the Orange County Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. “We are so thankful for Raj Manufacturing and NEXT Swimwear for their leadership and generosity through National SUP Day. They have changed the lives of many CF children and families throughout the country.”

"Year after year, NEXT National SUP Day brings awareness to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and we help make breakthrough connections for families coping with CF throughout the country," said Lisa Vogel, president of NEXT Swimwear.
