NFPA 70E guidelines presented by Shermco's Jim White at 2009 PCIC Technical Conference

This year's PCIC Technical Conference featured a tutorial on NFPA 70E guidelines presented by Jim White of Shermco Industries.

ANAHEIM, Calif. - Jim White, training director for Shermco Industries, recently presented 'Why I need to know what is in NFPA 70E - 2009: Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace' at the 56th annual PCIC Technical Conference held in Anaheim, Calif.

Hosted by the Petroleum and Chemical Industry Committee of the Industry Applications Society of IEEE, the annual conference served as a leading application meeting for practicing electrical engineers. The 2009 event featured six tutorials regarding technology and issues faced by engineers in the petroleum and chemical industry. As a NETA representative to the 70E committee, Jim White, along with Daleep Mohla and D. Ray Crow, addressed key changes made to the 70E as well as the reasons why they were adopted.

"The NFPA 70E has become the primary reference for electrical safety," said White. "It is important that industry professionals know and understand the latest changes in the standard to ensure the safety of their operations."

White is the training director for Shermco Industries, a leading provider of rotating apparatus and electrical power system training. He was the chairman of the 2008 IEEE Industry Applications Society Electrical Safety Workshop and the NETA representative on the Research Testing and Planning Committee (RTPC) working group for the IEEE/NFPA collaborative project investigating arc flash hazards.
