NH Investment Casting Provider Brings Innovation to an Age Old Manufacturing Technology
Alcumet Incorporated, a worldwide provider of investment castings has recently announced acquisition of equipment that will help them bring continued innovation to the industrial practice of investment casting.
Online, October 2, 2010 (Newswire.com) - Londonderry, NH - Alcumet Incorporated, a national supplier of investment casting has managed to bring innovation to an industrial process that dates back as far as 5,000 years.
The process, still in use by investment casting foundries such as Alcumet, is based on the lost-wax investment casting process, which originally used substances such as beeswax to create a mold, which was then used to complete the casting. As Alcumet's C.E.O., Russell Wilmarth explains, "Investment casting has advanced leaps and bounds from origins that date back to the beginning of written history. Today we use advanced CAD/CAM technology and advanced quality control as well as modern waxes, alloys, slurries, and more."
Wilmarth jokes, "There's a reason archaeologists are still digging up artifacts that were, essentially, investment castings from ancient civilizations." However, as Wilmarth explains, Alcumet has helped to improve the process significantly. "We've been able to innovate the process by introducing state of the art technology and years of experience. This way, we can automate production and provide a high volume of the precision, reliability, and quality that has made investment casting survive as an industrial process throughout history."
Alcumet has used the historic process to provide a wide variety of critical parts and components to industries such as the aerospace, communications, military, munitions, and electronics industries. Given the fact that investment casting can produce parts with extremely close tolerances, the process lends itself perfectly to industries where perfection is a must.
Wilmarth says, "Using investment casting instead of other manufacturing processes ensures that extensive secondary machining and finishing are unnecessary, and investment casting produces parts and components that don't need welds, nuts, or bolts."
