Nintendo Wii beats the Nintendo DS Lite, Sony PlayStation, Xbox 360 and Wii Fit Plus Bundle in sales
The Nintendo Wii is undoubtedly the hottest console video game in the market today. Sales of Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS units outnumbered their main competitors Sony PlayStation and Xbox360 by over 4 million units in December 2009 alone.
Online, March 17, 2010 (Newswire.com) - If you happen to be a video game player or a father, mother, sister, brother, uncle, aunt or a grandparent of a video gamer, the chances are you have heard about the Nintendo Wii Fit Bundle, Sony PlayStation and Microsoft Xbox 360.
Believe it or not, the very first video gaming console known as the 'Brown Box' was designed and produced way back in 1967 by the German born television engineer Ralph Baer and his coworkers. Several more video gaming consoles were produced and released to the market within the next 3 decades, however it was the 'Nintendo Entertainment System' released in 1985 that revolutionized the video gaming world. Since then, Nintendo went on to produce different and famous video gaming consoles such as the Game Boy (1989), Nintendo Game Cube (2001), Nintendo DS, Nintendo Wii, Nintendo Wii Fit and Nintendo Wii Fit Plus.
Nintendo, originally a Japanese playing-card company, had pretty tough competition from Sony PlayStation and Microsoft Xbox 360 along the way. However, according to some sales statistics from last two major shopping seasons indicate that Nintendo is heading the game by a mile. In December 2008 alone, 3.04 million units of the Nintendo DS gaming consoles were sold. This was the record held by any single gaming unit for highest number of sales within a month. However this record could not stay for long as in December 2009 alone 3.81 million Nintendo Wii consoles were sold in the USA. This was closely followed yet again by the Nintendo DS with 3.31 million sales. That's over 7 million units of Nintendo video game consoles!
Microsoft Xbox 360 and Sony PlayStation 3 got the 3rd and 4th places with around 1.3 million sales from each. In other words, Nintendo sold over 7 million units of their hottest video game consoles while Xbox 360 and Sony PlayStation 3 managed only about 2.6 million units between the two of them.
When it came to video console game software, Nintendo was seen occupying the top 3 spots. The top selling game was New Super Mario Bros (2.82 million sales), which is a Nintendo Wii game. Wii Fit Plus was at 2nd place with 2.41 million sales and Wii Sports Resort was at 3rd place with 1.79 million sales.
As millions of Nintendo Wii consoles were sold in the form of individual components as well as Wii Fit Bundles, merely 3 months after Christmas 2009, there is a huge shortage of some of the Nintendo video gaming components. One example is the shortage of the Nintendo Wii Fit Balance Board. During Christmas, the Wii Fit Balance Board was sold for $89.99 on places like Amazon.com, Buy.com, GameStop.com and DDRGame.com. But today, in March of 2010, it's almost impossible to find a Wii Fit balance board at less than $100. In fact, you'll be lucky to get one for $150. The Nintendo Wii console also sold for $199 during Christmas and today it costs over $220 at most online outlets.
The same goes with different kinds of Wii Fit Bundles. You could buy the Basic Wii Fit Bundle for US$330 (that's the Nintendo Wii Fit Balance Board and Wii Console with together the Wii Fit Plus Game, Nunchuk and Wii remote controller). But today, you'll be lucky if you found a Wii Fit bundle for less than $500. http://wiifitbundle.info compares prices from various online stores and summarizes the best deals available on Nintendo Wii Fit Bundles, Wii Fit Balance Boards and Nintendo Wii consoles.
