"As a woman in science, I feel a sense of responsibility to be the voice of change for diversity and inclusion. Diverse scientific teams can push the boundaries of science and generate new and creative research ideas," stated Hani Nejadriahi, IEEE Women in Photonics Task Force Chair and Postdoctoral Researcher at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory. "Awards like this allow us to celebrate the scientific contributions of women and visible role models who inspire the next generation of women in photonics."

The IEEE Women in Photonics initiative's main goal is to increase the participation, engagement and advancement of women in the optics and photonics community. The Society sets out to encourage gender inclusivity within technical, professional and educational opportunities, and is committed to continually improving its practices in order to build and maintain an environment that reflects the rich diversity of the photonics and optics scientific community.
