The finalists are selected from 1400 entries in 56 categories, and are examples of independent publishing at its finest.
The historical novel, Nonna's Book of Mysteries, is the story of a young woman whose quest to become a painter in Renaissance Florence is guided by her grandmother's book of alchemy. Book one of the author's Alchemy Series, the novel has received an ALA nomination for best feminist teen fiction and several festival awards. Nonna's Book of Mysteries has been featured in the Chicago Public Library summer reading program for teens and will be read in Chicago Catholic school classrooms. The author is a Chicago native and registered nurse.
