Norman Parathyroid Center's Dr. James Norman donates $1,000,000 to National Parathyroid Education Foundation

Dr. James Norman makes personal donation of $1,000,000 to National Parathyroid Education Foundation to help education of earlier diagnosis of hyperparathyroidism.

TAMPA - Dr. James Norman of the Norman Parathyroid Center in Tampa, FL, donates $1,000,000 to the National Parathyroid Education Foundation. Dr. Norman founded the National Parathyroid Education Foundation in March 2010. The foundation was begun in response to requests by thousands of patients who were frustrated with the delay in the diagnosis of their parathyroid disease. The foundation has been awarded a 501(c)(3) designation and is aimed at increasing the awareness of the dangers of high levels of blood calcium caused by a tumor on one of the parathyroid glands. The disease is called hyperparathyroidism and affects about 300,000 people per year in the U.S.

"My patients are the happiest, most grateful patients in the world," says Dr. Norman. "Their lives were changed dramatically by a simple operation that removed a hormone-producing tumor from their necks which was making them feel miserable; however, many of them continue to be frustrated that it took so long for their doctors to recognize the parathyroid disease which was often obvious for years. They wish they had their tumors removed years earlier so they didn't have to suffer so long," Dr. Norman adds.

"The National Parathyroid Education Foundation is very grateful for this generous donation to help jump-start our educational goals," says Mark Latham, CEO of the foundation. Latham adds, "This clearly shows Dr. Norman's dedication and passion toward the mission of the foundation. Countless patients have asked for a method to help educate other patients just like them, and we are confident that many will join Dr. Norman in support of the Foundation's goals."

"So many of my patients want to help educate other patients-and their doctors-that high blood calcium levels are not to be ignored or observed," adds Dr. Norman. "By making this donation I will join my patients in their quest to increase the awareness of this debilitating but easily cured disease," Norman states.
