North Carolina Documentary Explores Race and Democracy

Filmmaker Charles S. Martin explores the idea that America is at a time of "post racism", as deemed by our federal court. He speaks with academia and citizens as he explores race and democracy in America.

Mass incarceration, double-digit unemployment, a government shutdown over health reform -- these are a few of the onslaught of nuances that have taken shape on-the-watch of our nation's first African-American president.

On Tuesday, November 5, 2013, The Twelfth Annual African Diaspora Film Festival on the campus of North Carolina State University will screen the film, "Residue: This Ain't No Song and Dance (2013)", produced by North Carolina independent filmmaker, Charles S. Martin. The film will be screened at the Witherspoon Campus Cinema on the corner of Dan Allen Drive and Cates Avenue in Raleigh, North Carolina at 6:00 p.m.

Residue examines the notion of "post-racism" in America, and current American events that reveal two opposing Americas, from the perspectives of a random and diverse citizenry across four states, and gets to the core of what no one wants to talk about - race and democracy, wherein the civil liberties of many Americans could be under attack.

The documentary was inspired by the George Zimmerman verdict and ensuing public affairs events that followed. "I believe there is a critical need for all of us to talk through issues and concerns for better understanding of each other and the even larger global community around us," said Martin. "I am hoping the film will help continue what I believe is much needed dialogue."
