North Texan auditions for Oprah Winfrey Network; Talkumentary challenges families to adopt a foster child

Online, June 28, 2010 (Newswire.com) - When Dallas native Carey Marin began thinking about a concept for her audition on the Oprah Winfrey Network, her first priority was to make sure it was a topic she was passionate about.
"It did not take me long to decide that my first season should be all about adoption," said Marin, who now lives in Plano. "As an adoptive parent, it is a topic that I am extremely passionate about and that comes through on the audition tape. My mission is to educate, encourage and empower Americans to adopt a foster child over the age of nine."
"Your OWN Show: Oprah's Search for the Next TV Star," is a competition series that will premier on OWN, Oprah Winfrey's new network, in 2011. The winner of the series will host their own talk show produced for OWN.
Marin's show is a talkumentary (part talk show, part documentary) called "Raising Change." Each season, the show will focus on every aspect of one hot topic to bring about change in the minds and hearts of Americans. There are over 500,000 children in foster care in the United States and Marin said foster children between the ages of nine and 18 are the forgotten segment in our society.
"There is definitely a stigma attached to these children but one that can be overcome with love," said Marin. "Americans have big enough hearts to open their families to adopting a foster child and I am confident if more awareness was brought to light, we would do the right thing and eliminate this epidemic."
Part of Marin's Talkumentary will focus on five families in five cities, beginning in Dallas, that are going through the adoption process. She also plans to interview celebrities who have been adopted like President Bill Clinton, Ted Danson and Sarah MacLaughlin and those who have adopted like Sandra Bullock, Katherine Heigl and Angelina Jolie.
