Northeast Region Midwinter Conference
Sigma Gamma Rho hosts Midwinter Conference in La Plata, MD. The Northeast Region of the international service organization also supports youth affiliates, the Rhoers, as they launch the Rhoer Recycling Program.
Online, January 26, 2011 (Newswire.com) - The Northeast region of 88 year old international service organization, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Incorporated, will host its annual Midwinter Conference on Saturday, January 29th at the College of Southern Maryland. Attracting members from nearly 200 chapters, 15 states and 3 countries, the midwinter conference provides leadership development and networking opportunities, empowering members to make positive changes within their community.
The conference's host chapter Eta Omicron Sigma (Waldorf, MD) and the chapter's youth affiliates, the Eta Omicron Sigma Rhoers are capturing the spirit of the Midwinter conference and setting a shining example of service and commitment to the community by launching the Rhoer Recycling initiative. Recognizing that every year thousands of unwanted cell phones and ink cartridges end up in Maryland landfills, the Rhoers are committed to doing their part to protect the environment by recycling these items.
"Recycling is one of the many steps being taken toward making our planet a healthier place to live for future generations. It's something easy that everybody can do to help out" says high school student and Rhoer Brianna Williams (Westlake High School).
During the Midwinter conference old cell phones and ink cartridges will be collected for recycling. The collection will continue until March 18th. Persons interested in donating cell phones and ink cartridges are encouraged to contact Shamirah Johnson, Rhoer Coordinator at 202-997-5473 or email [email protected] for more information.
