Highlands Oncology Group Conducted the First Screening In Global Research Initiative
Fayetteville, AR, July 25, 2016 (Newswire.com) - Highlands Oncology Group (Highlands), Northwest Arkansas’ leading cancer research group, conducted the first screening of a subject in a global research initiative of ovarian cancer. Highlands is proud to have launched this important research.
The study will explore the value of “anti-PDL-1” immunotherapy, in concurrence with chemotherapy, in the treatment of patients with targeted ovarian cancer. Highlands is proud to have managed the first screening, of a subject, which launched the research.
Immunotherapy is treatment that uses certain parts of a person’s immune system to fight diseases such as cancer, according to the American Cancer Society (ACS).
The study researches a new immunomodulator in ovarian cancer. Immunomodulators are agents that modify the immune response or how the immune system functions. Ways this can be achieved is by stimulating antibody formation of the inhibition of white blood cell activity.
Ovarian cancer is the 11th most common cancer among women and the fifth leading cause of cancer-related death among women, according to the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance.
