NWA Cancer Treatment Center Congratulates Nurses on Earning Oncology Nursing Certification

Rogers, AR, August 11, 2016 (Newswire.com) - Highlands Oncology Group (HOG), Northwest Arkansas’ leading cancer treatment facility, would like to congratulate four of their registered nurses on passing the Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) examination administered by the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC).

Amy Fry, Becky Ivey, Kimberly Gracy and Aimee Sanders passed the examination and are now Oncology Certified (OCN) nurses.

Amy Fry, RN, OCN, has been employed with HOG since 2002. She works as a chemotherapy/infusion nurse. She is a graduate of the NWACC School of Nursing.

Becky Ivey, BSN, OCN, received her BSN from the University of Arkansas and started at HOG in the spring of 2001. Ivey works as a chemotherapy/infusion room nurse.

Kimberly Gracy, RN, BSN, OCN, first joined HOG as a medical assistant. She later graduated from nursing school at the University of Arkansas in 2008. After graduating, Gracy worked medical, surgical, orthopedic, and pre/post op before returning to HOG in 2014. She is a physician's nurse for Dr. Juan I. Lombeida, HOG's new Supportive Care Program physician.

Aimee Sanders, RN, OCN, graduated from Baptist School of Nursing. She is a physician's nurse for Dr. Stephan B. Rosenfeld and has been employed with HOG for 10 years.

The OCN examination tests the knowledge necessary for the nurse to practice competently at the basic level, within the specialty of adult oncology nursing.

Oncology nursing certification is available to nurses who have: a current, active, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) licensure, a minimum of 12 months of experience as an RN within the three years prior to application, a minimum of 1,000 hours of adult oncology nursing practice within the two-and-a-half years prior to application and must have completed a minimum of 10 hours of continuing education in the specialty of oncology nursing or an academic elective in oncology nursing, according to the ONCC.

The ONCC develops, administers and evaluates programs for certification in oncology nursing. The mission of ONCC is to promote excellence in patient care and professional practice by validating specialized knowledge in oncology nursing and related specialties.
