NWA Cancer Treatment Center Supports Race for the Cure

rogers, AR, April 28, 2016 (Newswire.com) - Highlands Oncology Group (Highlands), Northwest Arkansas’ leading cancer treatment facility, will have a team at the Susan G. Komen Ozark Affiliate Race for the Cure. The Highlands team will consist of 95 employees, friends, and family members. The event will occur on April 30 at Pinnacle Hills Promenade in Rogers.

The Komen Ozark Race for the Cure raises funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer, celebrates survivors and honors those who have lost their battle from the disease. Participation in the event and individual fundraising help provide free services for the breast cancer journey, including: education, outreach, screening and diagnostic services, emergency assistance, transportation and research.

Highlands is dedicated to the advancement of cancer research; the group supports Race for the Cure. Highlands is a sponsor of Race for the Cure and is sponsoring the medals. They will also have a booth at the event.

Every year Highlands hosts a t-shirt design contest in anticipation of the event. Team members will be wearing t-shirts depicting the winning design at the races.

Aside from skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common cancer among American women, according to the American Cancer Society (ACS). About 12 percent of women will develop breast cancer during their lifetime, according to the ACS. In 2016, there will be an estimated 1,685,210 new cancer cases diagnosed and 595,690 cancer deaths in the US.

Races at the event will include: 10K runs, 5K runs and a one mile fun walk. The event will also host activities including: Bark for the Cure, Kids for the Cure, Teens for the Cure and more.
