NWA Oncologist Collaborates on Research of Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma

Rogers, AR, May 9, 2016 (Newswire.com) - Dr. J Thaddeus Beck, of Highlands Oncology Group (Highlands), Northwest Arkansas’ premier cancer treatment facility, collaborated on research of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma which has been accepted for publication. The research will be published in the medical journal, Future Oncology.

The research, entitled “Pixantrone-rituximab versus gemcitabine-rituximab in relapsed/refractory aggressive non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma” studies the effectiveness of a specifically targeted treatment of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma is a dangerous and pervasive disease in the United States, and globally. As such, continuous research is necessary for advancement in treatment options. The disease accounts for about four percent of all cancer cases in the U.S., according to the American Cancer Society.

Approximately 2.1 percent of men and women will be diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma at some point during their lifetime, based on 2010-2012 data, according to the National Cancer Institute (NCI). In 2013, there were an estimated 569,536 people living with non-Hodgkin lymphoma in the United States, according to the NCI.
