NYC - Meet Your Neighbors. Local Charity To Win $1000.
NYC has a bad rep as one of the least friendly places on earth, and Common Ground is going to change that! From April 26 - May 5 Common Ground is challenging New Yorkers to connect with 10 new people in their neighborhood using GetCommonGround.com
Online, April 18, 2011 (Newswire.com) - In New York's concrete jungle, residents have a reputation for being as cold as the buildings around them. A new community network called Common Ground wants to demolish this stereotype, and is asking New York to help. From April 26 to May 5 Common Ground is launching a neighborhood spring challenge called Defrost The Big Apple. The site is challenging New Yorkers to use GetCommonGround.com to connect with 10 people in their community, and will donate $1,000 to a charity in the neighborhood with the most connections.
"Technology has killed real community. People are spending more time with their devices, and less time face-to-face with people. We're out to change that, starting in Manhattan", says Andrew, co-founder and Chief Connections Officer at Common Ground. "We believe that the virtual world should support the real world, not the other
way around."
Common Ground is a new community network that uses activities of interest to help you connect with people nearby. The website has set out to create a virtual bulletin board for neighborhoods, similar to the one in your apartment building or local coffee shop. The site helps connect people seeking local activity partners, such
as someone to play pick-up basketball with, a language partner, a running buddy, or a fourth for poker night. Common Ground uses a range of reputation data to calculate a Trust Score for each of its members, making socializing with locals a safe and comfortable experience.
To participate, visit GetCommonGround.com, post activities of interest, and connect with people in your neighborhood. GetCommonGround.com will announce the winning neighborhood on May 9, 2011 and allow residents to vote on a local charity to receive a $1,000 donation.
