NYSIR Sponsors NYSCOSS Women's Leadership Initiative

UNIONDALE, NY , January 24, 2017 (Newswire.com) - The New York Schools Insurance Reciprocal (NYSIR) and the New York State Council of School Superintendents (The Council) have announced that NYSIR will be title sponsor of The Council’s 2017 Women’s Initiative.

The statewide initiative, begun in 2015, features several regional conferences that help to identify, cultivate and develop leadership potential in women educators. In particular, the Women’s Initiative is aimed at increasing the number of female superintendents in school districts across the state. Nationally, more than 76 percent of teachers are women, according to The Council, but in New York only 30 percent of superintendents are women.

“The Council has a history of supporting education leadership,” said Jacinda H. Conboy, general counsel for the superintendents group, noting the organization’s Harvard Summer Leadership program, its Future Superintendent Academy, New Superintendents’ Institute, Second- and Third-Year Superintendents’ Institute and statewide conferences.
