“Of course, there are several levels of competition,” indicated Joe. “I’m very careful to avoid anything too cutthroat, which can severely hamper the cohesion of our group. Harmless fun is the goal, and I think it’s an integral reason for our success.” He noted that friendly competition requires a common goal. For instance, they each might try to collect the most items for a food drive. The common goal in such a scenario is to make a large donation to those in need. It’s not simply about who can be the best.
