Odalo J. Ohiku, Founder, The Law Office of Odalo J. Ohiku, has joined Noticed©, an invitation-only service for distinguished professionals. Ohiku has been chosen as a Distinguished Lawyer™ based on peer reviews and ratings, dozens of recognitions, and accomplishments achieved throughout his career.

Ohiku outshines others in his field due to his extensive educational background, numerous awards and recognitions, and career longevity. Ohiku earned both his B.A. and J.D. as well as an M.A. in public service from Marquette University. Additionally, he has received arbitration training from the American Bar Association as well as divorce and family mediation training from UW-Madison.

Given the fact that mass incarceration has failed to curb drug dealing or consumption coupled with exorbitant costs of our prison system and the ever-changing face of the perceived prototypical drug user, I believe there will be a continued shift from an incarceration model to a treatment model, thereby diverting people from prison to treatment and resources.

Ohiku has been recognized among the Top 40 Under 40 by The National Trial Lawyers and the American Society of Legal Advocates, among many other prestigious accolades.

With 16 years dedicated to law, Ohiku brings a wealth of knowledge to his industry, and, in particular, to his areas of specialization, criminal and family law. When asked why he decided to pursue a career in law, Ohiku said:

"When I was fourteen, a close family member was accused of a crime. I personally felt the stress and anguish that bears down on those fighting the system. From that point on, I knew I wanted to defend people going up against our daunting legal system and protect them from violations of their constitutional rights."

As a thought leader in his field, Ohiku regularly lectures on topics that include Fourth Amendment search and seizure and removing barriers to employment. He has also been elected to the State Bar of Wisconsin Board of Governors and serves on the Strategic Planning and Diversity & Inclusion Oversight Committees. This prominence gives Ohiku a unique insight into prevailing trends in criminal defense and family law. Among other trends, he notes that he is currently paying attention to the following:

"Given the fact that mass incarceration has failed to curb drug dealing or consumption coupled with exorbitant costs of our prison system and the ever-changing face of the perceived prototypical drug user, I believe there will be a continued shift from an incarceration model to a treatment model, thereby diverting people from prison to treatment and resources."

Beyond his private practice, Ohiku sponsors his annual Second Chance Expungement Clinic, a clinic focused on assisting eligible people to remove criminal convictions from their records. He also sponsors Backpack-to-School, another annual event in which his firm gives away free backpacks filled with school supplies to students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Additionally, Ohiku mentors aspiring lawyers, hoping to imbue the next generation of legal professionals with the high ethical standards to which he holds himself.

Ohiku also participates in the State Bar of Wisconsin's Diversity Clerkship Program. This clerkship matches first-year law students with lawyers during the summer. It provides them "hands-on" experience into working and thinking like a lawyer. Mr. Ohiku utilizes the Diversity Clerkship Program to have a direct impact on shaping and molding law students into leading lawyers.
