Off-Road Motorcycles Recalled for Possible Fuel Leak

Kawasaki USA issues recall citing the potential for fire hazard

Kawasaki USA has issued a voluntary recall of nearly 10,000 of its KLX110 & KLX110L off-road motorcycles from model years 2010, 2011 and 2012. The affected cycles have a 110 CC engine. The recall was issued when it was discovered that fuel can leak between the bikes' fuel tanks and their fuel taps, posing a serious fire hazard.

The affected units are identifiable by their a green fuel tanks, shroud covers and fenders. They have black seats and feature white side covers. The "Kawasaki" name is visible on each side of the shroud cover. The model names and numbers are also featured on both side covers and are located right beneath the seats. The KLX110 models all have an automatic clutch and shift pedal. They do not have handlebar clutch levers. The seat height is approximately 27 inches. The KLX110L models each have manual clutch and shift pedal. They also have handlebar clutch levers and an approximate seat height of 29 inches.

Owners of these motorcycles should stop operating them immediately and contact Kawasaki at (866) 802-9381 or visit their website at www.kawasaki.com. The website has a page set up at the bottom to field inquiries about the recall and provide further information. The company is offering a free repair to address and correct the issue. The bikes were manufactured in Thailand between November 2009 and January 2014 and retailed for USD $2,100 - 2,350.

"It is a seemingly small recall for a motor vehicle problem, but it is still significant," commented Drazen Alcocer, founder and CEO of iFederated, parent company of iRecalls.com. "These motorcycles were sold nationwide."

iFederated Chairman Artin Afsharjavan added his thoughts as well. "What amazes me is how in this day and age most companies still rely on postal mail to inform owners of a safety recall or their car or motorcycle. There has to be a better and faster way. That is why we started iRecalls.com: to fill that gap and get the word out faster."
