Old Favorites Return To Popdose.Com With New Series On The Way For 2012
Pop culture website marks a stellar 2011 with exciting announcements
Online, November 11, 2011 (Newswire.com) - Capping what has been a fruitful year for feisty pop culture website Popdose.com is an announcement of several ongoing series slated for 2012. Leading the pack is a journey into the dark hearts of musicdom with David Lifton's Popdose Rock 'N Roll A-holes Tournament. According to Lifton, "It stemmed from Episode 7 of the Popdose Podcast (March 2010), where that was the topic. A few months after that, I had an idea for a series of posts that would define and list Rock's Greatest Villains. I ran it by the group and there was a morning's worth of posts on the subject, but all I did was throw the suggestions into an Excel spreadsheet. Over the next year, every once in a while I'd think about the topic, but nothing moved on it. This past June, I referenced that podcast and decided to listen back to it because we had so much fun doing it. It struck me that the best way to get it done would be to do it like one of ESPN's bracket tournament polls."
Fast becoming one of Popdose's go-to series, Digging for Gold: The Time-Life "AM Gold" Series, a critical dissection of the entire A.M. Gold collection moderated by Chris Holmes plunges into the diamond mine of the 1970s. Will our intrepid reviewers come back alive, or get stuck in a commune trying to find themselves in afros and corduroy?
Many readers were saddened to see the end of Dave Steed's column Bottom Feeders, which catalogued the bitterest end of the 1980s pop and rock music charts. It can now be revealed that Steed was saddened too, so much so that a brand new slate and decade, this time the 1990s, is on the chopping block. Steed said, "Bottom Feeders: The A-- End of the '90s will debut on January 9th and run each Monday. Barring anything unforeseen it will end on September 30th, 2013."
The site is not finished with 2011 however. What would the holiday season be without that classic duo of Jeff Giles and Jason Hare torturing each other with the very worst Christmas music obtainable? Mellowmas 2011 promises to be another hideous, hellish month for them, but a great read for the regular Popdose visitor. Senior Associate Editor Dw. Dunphy said, "I don't know why Mellowmas has become as big a deal as it has, but just about every week we get a message asking if it is coming back. We're happy to say it is, and hope that those who check out this year's tunes will do so responsibly. People could get hurt."
