Oldest 13th Floor Elevators Internet Group Hits 3,000 Members

AUSTIN, TEXAS, August 9, 2015 (Newswire.com) - ​​The Internet's oldest discussion group, about the 13th Floor Elevators, hit 3,000 members recently. This makes it, not only the oldest but, the largest Internet discussion group in the world about the 13th Floor Elevators.

The 13th Floor Elevators are the, hugely influential, Texas rock group widely regarded as one the inventors of psychedelic music. After a meteoric rise, from starting in 1965, the group disbanded in 1968 amid drug arrests and the sentencing of founder Member, Roky Erickson, to a mental hospital. Their music has continued to be inspirational to succeeding generations of rock musicians from the punk and grunge eras continuing up until today. Surviving Members of the 13th Floor Elevators recently headlined the 2015 Austin Psych Festival in May.

The Internet discussion group started, back in 1998, on eGroups which was one of the very first social networking sites. It was known as the Roky Erickson eGroup. Pretty soon, eGroups was bought out by Yahoo and it became the Roky Erickson Yahoogroup. After some years, dissatisfaction with Yahoogroups caused the group to move to Googlegroups and be renamed the Texas Psych Googlegroup. With the rise of Facebook, the group moved to Facebook. In 2014, the Texas Psych Facebook Group sent off a splinter which was the 13th Floor Elevators Facebook Group. Recently, this group passed 3,000 members.

This group is famous for running the Roky CD Club. The Roky Erickson CD Club is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to preserving the best Texas Psychedelic music and putting that same music into the fan's hands. Recently, their whole Roky/13th Floor Elevators-related catalog was converted to YouTube Playlists for the fans to access. This is well over sixty titles.

Members of the 13th Floor Elevators, and other Texas Psych groups, have been (and are currently) Members. Right now, 13th Floor Elevators Drummer - John Ike Walton, is a participating Member. Famed Austin Poster Artist - Jim Franklin is also a Member. The group also enjoys people who were Members of rock groups, in what came to be known as "Texas Psych", as participating Members.
