Olympics in Rio Will Be a Success, Says Dr. Bach
The IOC is positive about the Olympic Games despite the current situation in Brazil
Lausanne, Switzerland, April 21, 2016 (Newswire.com) - The 2016 SportAccord Convention is currently being held in Lausanne, Switzerland – home of the International Olympic Committee headquarters.
The SportAccord Convention is the world's premier and most exclusive annual event for sports administers and brings together representatives from more than 100 International Sports Federations.
Dr. Thomas Bach, President of the IOC, is convinced that the 2016 Olympic Games will be a success despite all the political and economic issues that Brazil is facing at the moment.
Mr. Bach’s supported his positive outlook ahead of the Games when he said: “There are two reasons for this: First, the people from Rio de Janeiro and Brazil are really supportive of the games and will cooperate to make it a success. Secondly, the entire Olympic Family; National Olympic Committees, Olympic Sports Federations, Sponsors, Media and everyone else involved will spare no efforts to make it happen. It will be a remarkable edition of the Olympic Games.”
Rafael Sperotto, KhayaMedia’s Global Sales Director, is representing the Company at the event and when asked to comment on Dr. Bach’s statement he said: “The current economic and political situation in Brazil is not ideal for the cheerful celebration the Olympics are meant to be. But at the same time people in Rio love sport and enjoy celebrations like hardly anyone else in the world.”
Preparations for the games are at their final stretch. The new Metro Line connecting Rio with the Olympic Park in Barra will be opened shortly before the games. Test events at the cycling arena have been delayed several times; the venue couldn’t be tested yet. And, ticket sales have been slow in Brazil with tickets for many Olympic events still available for Brazilians.
The Olympic Torch was lit today in Olympia, the birthplace of the Ancient Olympic Games. It will tour around Greece before being handed over to Rio 2016’s organizers on the 27th of April.
Now the world is waiting to see if the Olympic flame ignites the Olympic spirit of the Cariocas once it reaches Rio.
