Omega Engineering Wins 2021 Process Expo Innovations Showcase Competition for Dairy Category, HANI™ Temperature Sensor

Patent-pending technology eliminates need for invasive sensors that clog pipes, reduce flow, slow cleaning, and risk contaminants - high-accuracy HANI sensor mounts outside, measures inside.

Omega HANI Innovations Winner

Omega Engineering, a leading solution provider of sensing, control, and monitoring technologies, was awarded winner of the 2021 Process Expo Innovations Showcase competition in the Cheese, Dairy, Ice Cream, Milk, and Yogurt category for its buzz-worthy new HANI Clamp-on Temperature Sensor. Paneled by a group of experts from the processing industry, this competitive event spotlights the latest innovation breakthroughs for food and beverage processing professionals.

The high-accuracy HANI temperature sensor attaches to piping systems in seconds without interrupting product flow or production. Unlike traditional invasive sensors, HANI sensors require zero contact with products - such as ice cream, fruit pulp, or soups - that can affect accuracy and cause occlusions that reduce flow, clog pipes, and that may lead to problems with contaminants. HANI sensors improve both efficiency and cost of maintaining Clean-In-Place (CIP) and Product Recovery ("pigging") systems by eliminating the need for manual removal before pigging and cleaning cycles - as well as the need for additional cleaning and maintenance of the tee fittings required for invasive temperature probes.

"Installing or relocating an invasive in-pipe sensor can be a costly, time-consuming process," explains Ahmar Bajwa, Director of Product Management at Omega. "With HANI sensors, customers don't need to worry about immersion depth, material compatibility, corrosion, or contamination risks. And there's no loss of performance, so it's really a best-of-both-worlds-approach."

HANI is redefining in-pipe temperature measurements at a low entry cost. Omega's patent-pending Hybrid Temperature Sensing platform uses multiple sensors and a proprietary algorithm to achieve the same accuracy and fast response times as state-of-the-art invasive sensors. Its non-invasive temperature measurement also helps eliminate turbulence and waste during bottling (or canning), helps diagnose in-line temperature issues, and, above all, eliminates pipe cutting, welding, and modifications of any kind. And the ease and simplicity of installation and relocation reduces cost, minimizes downtime, and eliminates consequences of incorrect placement.

Solving these major challenges made Omega's HANI High Accuracy, Non-Invasive Clamp Temperature Sensor a clear stand-out among the other high-caliber products at the 2021 Process Expo - and solidified its place as a leading-edge solution in the food and beverage industry.
