"On Tender Hooks", a feature length documentary about human suspension will be screening at the Cannes Film Market on Monday, May 20th 2013 and it's also available to be screened by market pass holders on www.cinando.com. Filmed over the course of a year, director Kate Shenton's film follows people who practice Human Suspension, an art form which involves piecing meat hooks though the flesh and suspending in mid air from them. "On Tender Hooks" is the first film of its kind, a deep insight into a secretive and guarded community who have often been judged to be 'self harmers' and 'freaks.' Though it is "fly on the wall" style, it shows how far the human body can be pushed, and the benefits this has on the mind.

This is "On Tender Hooks" first industry screening before it has its UK premier in September at a Major International Film festival held in London. It will be screened at the Cannes film market on the 20th of May, 3.30pm at the Palasis F. "On Tender Hooks" is the first full feature length film focusing purely on suspension. The screening will be a unique insight into a world which previously has had very little exposure and never to this detail. Director Kate Shenton immersed herself in the world of suspension, to point where she even suspended herself to understand the experience more.

On Tender Hooks was produced and directed by filmmaker Kate Shenton. It begin life as a short film under the same name which played over 14 international film festival, including Raindance, Slamdance, Encounter and London Short film festival. After the success of the short Kate decided to continue the project into a full length feature documentary. Filmed over a course of a year it begins by following suspension groups based in London before travel to Croatia and Norway. The film also has a selection of unique footage including a suspension taking place a London underground tube train and a suspension involving a bungee jump rope. An industry screening was held at the London Short Film Festival where the filmed received a rave reception and was described as 'unforgettable.' Hungertv review of the film states that 'After you had dragged yourself uncomfortably through the opening crimson-splattered salvos it became easier to see beyond the blood and the bondage, the hooks and hematomas. There was no let up in the content - it was more that any sensitivity was overcome by the presence of genuinely fascinating characters on screen.'

This is the first feature length film by Kate Shenton. A sequel is now the pipeline called 'Modify Me' in which Tam Smith, one of the main figures in "On Tender Hooks" plans to completely modify every inch of his body.
