One-man creator/publisher launches own comics line with Sureshot Comics and "Wayout West"#1!
Online, January 30, 2010 (Newswire.com) - What if the Lone Ranger & Tonto met Predator? What if Gunsmoke was attacked by the creatures from Alien? What if aliens from outer space invaded a dying Nevada gold town in the year 1888? If this sounds familiar, this is NOT the graphic novel, "Cowboys & Aliens" by Platinum Studios, which is currently under development as a feature film. Though it initially shared that title, this book has been retitled in compliance with a trademark established by Platinum in 1998 and an agreement reached between Tom Arvis and Platinum in 2004. Whatever its title, WAYOUT WEST #1 is the one truly ORIGINAL SCI-FI WESTERN! Originally created as a 16-page black & white ashcan by Tom Arvis in 1995, WAYOUT WEST #1 was updated, colored and expanded for this "10th Anniversary Edition", and released in 2005 exclusively at www.sureshotcomics.com... until now! This book is currently available for retail orders through Haven Distribution (havendistro.com).
In this issue, Jeb Calrone and his Indian cohort, Wanteka of the Shawneeki Tribe return from a long sojourn to find Wan's village burnt to the ground and everyone in it dead. As the pair survey the carnage, they encounter a "flying iron-carriage from hell", piloted by aliens soon to be known as The Grak'n, a renegade band of reptilian "space-pirates" who are on their way to lay siege to the fictional town of Saddlestone, Nevada. The pair puts up a valiant fight, but as Wan is forced to flee and warn the people of Saddlestone of the impending invasion, Jeb is overcome by the Grak'n ship, only to be secretly rescued at the last minute by The Cerci, a second race of aliens in pursuit of the Grak'n for multiple inter-galactic crimes. Exclusive to this anniversary edition is an all-new 8-page backup story depicting how young Jeb and Wan met and became "Blood Brothers".
This is intended to be the first in a six issue limited series, with issues 1 -3 already completed and issues 4-6 in the works, produced entirely by Tom Arvis, a Washington DC based freelance Illustrator/Designer and comic-book creator since 1989. Arvis' previous comic book and strip credits include "Roommates"- 4-panel comic strip for The Breeze, JMU 1978- 1982, "Teykwa", 1988 from Gemstone Comics, "Arnold vs. Big Bird" 1993 for Humor Comics, a "Blonde Canary" pin-up page for Amazing Heroes Swimsuit Edition, and a "Rench & Stinky" cover for Spoof Comics, to name a few, as well as being sole creator and publisher of Sureshot Comics. Other titles by Tom Arvis offered through Sureshot Comics include "Mercenary Pig", "XRQ-24, The Pandimensional Man", and "Adolescent Power Fantasies".
Fans can find this and other Sureshot Comics titles at www.sureshotcomics.com, and by asking for it at your local comics shops, or by contacting Tom Arvis directly at [email protected] or call 301-468-0828.
