Online Optical Store Turns 1 And Gives Away Free Prescription Glasses

In this slow recovering economy a lot of families are grinding it out and cutting corners even in areas where they shouldn't, like their family health and vision care. One online retailer on the eve of its one year birthday decides to help.

As more and more American families cut costs and corners we begin to see how great some other countries may have it where health care for hospital, dental, and vision are given away for free to all residents. But enough about current politics. A lot of medical professionals are now donating their services here and abroad to help even a small percent of these people, nice concept no?

For most Americans prescription eyeglasses are not a main concern. They visit their eyecare professional, get a prescription, grab their union or health care card and re-visit the optician a week later to pick their glasses up. But what about those 20 million Americans who don't have prescription eyeglasses coverage ?

The fact of the matter is, most people without vision coverage don't care, they just adjust their life and move on. This is a huge problem for the rest of us, if Nancy has poor vision and goes for a drive and gets into an accident. Weird example, but its possible. How about those people who can't work because they can't see. Can't afford to get prescription glasses and can't work without prescription glasses, what a wonderfully sick combination.

Huge organizations like givingsight.org have been trying to help the poorer countries by providing free prescription eyeglasses to children in places like South Africa for quiet some time now. It is an amazing effort and one most optical professionals can get behind. However, it is difficult to stand behind such a huge organization when you're just a small business trying to make a living.

LensesRX.com, now in its first year of doing business online, is one of these small fish who want to help. Even though any effort is admirable, giving back to your own community is always looked upon as a sign of good business. So, starting in August, there is a link on bottom left side of their website (LensesRX.com) which simply says "Free Prescription Eyeglasses" it is a monthly raffle designed to give one lucky person, every month, a free pair of prescription glasses. Already, over 400 people have enrolled.

Yes some luck is involved, there isn't a prescreening process. But think of it this way, by the time the company rolls around to its 2nd birthday, they would have given away 12 free prescription glasses. At an average retail price of $160 per pair, that's about $2,000 given back to the community they serve. Not too shabby for a small fish online. We applaud you! Job well done!
