Denver, CO - Denver's very own International Women's Day team (IWDD), (www.internationalwomensdaydenver.org) will be celebrating and honoring the 100th Anniversary of International Women's Day on March 8, 2011 concurrently with The Women's Information Network (WIN) - the largest worldwide media and social network - and 10 other cities to date.
In 2010, Women With A Cause founder, Susan Keily introduced International Women's Day to Denver to a sold out audience. Mayor John Hickenlooper opened the event by issuing a proclamation of March 8th, International Women's Day recognition. This year, International Women's Day Denver (IWDD) will be celebrating to acknowledge the accomplishments of women, past and present for their political, economical and social contributions.
Every year on International Women's Day, thousands of events are held throughout the world to inspire and celebrate the achievements and contributions of women. On this day since its inception in 1911, a global web of rich and diverse activity has connected women from all around the globe without regard to national, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, religious, economic or political differences. To date 176 countries will be participating, including 10 cities in the US - and International Women's Day - Denver, with its group of devoted ambassadors is diligent in bringing Denver to the forefront of this global awareness.
This is a once in a lifetime 100th Anniversary experience and we invite you to celebrate with us by participating in our 5K Run/Walk on March 6th, 2011 in Wash Park to help raise money for micro loans to support women in gaining sustainable income to lift their families and communities out of poverty. Also join us at our non-profit women and girls' expo, a powerful production of dance, music, inspirational speakers, and international cuisine, March 8th at the Sewall Ballroom in The Denver Center for Performing Arts. These events will showcase organizations that support women and girls throughout our community.
IWDD is working very hard to raise awareness of International Women's Day in America where it is not recognized as a national holiday but, in 32 other countries it is.
