Woman-Owned Hair Accessory Company Sees 6,000% Increase in Company Sales After Oprah Show Appearance

The cultural force known as "The Oprah Effect" is widely known throughout the world. It's the way everything Oprah Winfrey has touched in her 25 legendary years as a talk show host has almost literally turned to gold. Such was the case for Hana Johnson, CEO and Founder of Hair Flairs, LLC. Johnson has seen first-hand how powerful the Oprah Effect is, as she watched her company's sales increase over 6,000% as the result of a chance product mention on the Oprah Show in January 2011.

Trina Marr, Creative Director for Hair Flairs, was originally featured on the Oprah Show in April 2005, along with her now ex-husband, for a show titled, "You're Not the Person I Married". In January 2011, Marr was invited back to the Oprah Show for an episode titled, "Love, Marriage, Betrayal: Our Most Memorable Couples Return". It was there that Marr revealed that she had divorced her husband, taken up roller derby to lose 80 pounds and was now part of a successful hair accessory company, Hair Flairs LLC.

Ever the consummate businesswoman, Marr appeared on the January 2011 episode wearing Hair Flairs Pro Tinsel. Oprah noticed the sparkling extensions and touched them, asking, "What are those? How do I get some of those?" The "Oprah Touch" sparked a national curiosity for the Hair Flairs product line, ultimately resulting in a 6,000% increase in year to date company sales and a flood of additional media attention.

On April 21, 2011, world famous hair stylist Louis Licari appeared on The Today Show, displaying the flagship Hair Flairs product - Pro Hair Tinsel -- and touting it as the hottest hair trend of 2011. Hair Tinsel made another appearance on The Today Show with Kathie Lee and Hoda on May 18th, 2011, when producer Allison Berger sported the tinsel for the show's "Would You Wednesday" segment. Hair Flairs Feather Extensions have since been seen twice on The Today Show with Kathie Lee and Hoda.

In 2011, Hair Flairs has also had their products appear in episodes of popular television episodes such as GLEE, Gossip Girl, Dancing With the Stars and American Idol. Major media outlets such as USA TODAY, Glamour, Elle, Allure and Reuters have also come calling.

Says Johnson, "Both Trina and I have 'rags-to-riches' stories. We were raised by single mothers and are self-made entrepreneurs. When we finally got our 'Oprah moment', we knew we had created something special. Watching this company grow so quickly has been a dream come true."
