Orbund Announces Faster LMS Deployment to Colleges During COVID-19
Edtech Innovator of Alexa Integration Offers Rapid Online Learning Platform to Post-Secondary Schools
OVERLAND PARK, Kan., April 10, 2020 (Newswire.com) - Colleges and universities have had to abruptly adopt fully online learning with the COVID-19 outbreak, according to Orbund LLC. In response, the Overland Park, Kansas-based educational technology company announced today a rapid deployment program of its Learning Management System (LMS).
“These are challenging times, and not every school has experience in distance learning,” said Arif Joarder, founder of Orbund. “Traditional LMS can take weeks or months to implement and train. We have a simpler system with the essentials for course delivery and management. As faculty and students evolve, it expands with them.”
Recent research by EDUCAUSE supports Orbund’s concerns. Prior to COVID-19, the percent of U.S. students who used an LMS for most of their courses was shy of 22 percent. Among community college students, fewer than 45 percent even have a desktop computer at home.
“Our non-traditional students rely on their mobile devices for online learning,” Mr. Joarder said, “so they have faced much steeper learning curves when the pandemic pushed everyone online.”
Orbund’s announcement today includes a rapid deployment of its learning management system with additional training and consideration for institutions demonstrating need. For assistance, administrators are encouraged to email [email protected].
Orbund is a cloud-based Student Information System (SIS) provider that serves more than 300 campuses. Based in Overland Park, Kansas, Orbund was the first SIS provider to offer fully API-compliant Amazon Alexa integration, launching a voice-engaged student system in 2019. The company was begun in 2003.
