Orchid Recovery Center Offers Educational Blog about Addiction and Healthy Living

Focusing on providing informative and educational content, Orchid Recovery Center's The Rehab Blog helps readers learn important information about drug and alcohol addiction and recovery.

The Orchid Recovery Center is a women-only drug and alcohol rehab facility in South Florida that provides holistic healing for women dealing with drug and alcohol addictions in order to strengthen a woman's body, mind and spirit. The Rehab Blog, offered by the organization and written by staff, is filled with content that serves to inform and educate the reader about addiction and recovery.

A new blog article is posted every few days and range in topics all relevant to drug and alcohol addiction, overdoes, and leading healthier lives. One recent post, 12 Tried and True Aspects of Successful Recovery, offers 12 aspects of successful recovery that can serve as the perfect supplement to what someone in recovery is already doing. All 12 of the items mentioned, including the importance of purpose, mindfulness, empowerment and community, among others, are things that are embraced by 12-Step fellowships as well as non-12- Step programs because each aspect is essential to being healthy and happy in life and not just when recovering from addiction.

"With a vast array of article topics, some very serious and others more lighthearted, our readers find great support in learning from the information we share."

Peter A. Harrigan, CEO of the Orchid Recovery Center

Another recent post, 52 Resolutions You Should Be Making, shares really simple things that anyone can do to make life easier and more enjoyable. Rather than a more traditional resolution list of fad diets, breaking habits and promises that usually gets broken, this list of resolutions offers new things to try. There’s a resolution offered for each week of the year and most are free and all are easily achievable. Write a handwritten note and post it to someone you haven’t been in touch with for a while is first on the list. Another resolution encourages the reader to try a day out alone going to a movie or visiting a museum embracing solitude and enjoyment in one’s own company.

“The Rehab Blog is not just for women who seek treatment at our facility,” says Peter A. Harrigan, CEO of the Orchid Recovery Center. “With our blog, we try to provide an avenue for anyone to learn about subjects important to those dealing with addiction and leading healthy lives including those already in treatment, those thinking about treatment and even someone with just an interest in the subject matter. With our wealth of knowledge, the blog provides us an opportunity to be a resource for many.”

More serious topics focus on how specific drugs can affect a person both physically and psychologically. The blog post, This is Your Brain on Meth, offers insight on how methamphetamine can cause significant changes to the brain. The content provides education for the reader about how meth causes long-lasting cognitive impairment and confusion, and can compromise a user’s ability to learn and perform basic verbal tasks. The article focuses on how meth can cause depression, paranoia and delusions, among other effects. Most striking is how meth affects both your short and long-term memory because of the changes it causes to brain structures. Users often lose long stretches of time and even struggle with accomplishing day-to-day tasks.

“Our blog articles provide a forum for information and education right at your fingertips,” adds Harrigan. “With a vast array of article topics, some very serious and others more lighthearted, our readers find great support in learning from the information we share.”

Recent blog posts have included articles about depression, emotional abuse, smoking, anger management and living happy and healthier lives, among a variety of other informative topics. To read the selection of articles posted, visit The Rehab Blog
