Organic and Fair Trade Coffee - The Wise Choice For Consumers

Non-profit groups such as churches or schools, who need to raise extra money, are now turning to fair trade organic coffee fundraising programs. They have come to realize that they can choose to drink a healthier coffee, and support a worthy cause.

Unless the coffee you buy is certified as Fair Trade, there is a good chance that the farmers, growers and community members are not getting an equitable return and getting less than a fair wage for their efforts. The Fair Trade movement certification insures that a just and decent fair business relationship exists between the farmers and importers. Fair Trade organic coffee is within the reach of each of us. It can now be found at many online stores. And the demand is increasing as consumers become more aware of the benefits. Non-profit groups such as churches or schools, who need to raise extra money, are now turning to fair trade organic coffee fundraising programs. They have come to realize that they can choose to drink a healthier coffee, while supporting a worthy cause like fair trade.

Let's take a look at coffee, as a common everyday consumer product, which is enjoyed in virtually every city, town and village throughout our planet with an ever growing consumption. As the second most traded commodity after oil, it has indeed reached just about every home in the world! Coffee is among the world's most highly sprayed crops using harmful chemicals which get stored in the body's fat cells and take a long time to be expelled. Could it be that we are slowly killing ourselves unless we are buying organically grown coffee?

Far from being an alarmist, one can easily realize that we are ingesting small doses of harmful herbicides and pesticides with the food we eat and drink. And, because these doses are small, we may not feel the negative effects until years later, when our bodies have accumulated more than we can tolerate. At that point, we are already sick and it is too late. Wouldn't it make sense to eat and drink healthier? That is why the organic industry is now growing at 22% each year.

Drinking organic coffee is an easy way to make positive changes toward a healthy lifestyle. It is grown without the use of harmful herbicides and pesticides, and it actually costs the same or slightly more than ordinary coffee. While organic products, and especially coffee are becoming more readily available, there is still a resistance to purchase these products. When you think about how often you drink coffee, and the fact that those beans were sprayed with chemicals meant to kill bugs, doesn't it scare you, just a little.
