Organic Foods Not More Nutritious Than Conventional Foods Say Researchers

Online, November 2, 2012 (Newswire.com) - The researchers skimmed over thousands of studies and picked 237 that they thought best compared organic and conventional foods to analyze. Among these studies, 220 investigated the properties of the foods themselves and 17 involved the results of individuals on either diet. The studies ranged in length from two days to two years.
"The news that there is no difference in organic vs. nonorganic is very good if true," say boomer generation health experts Dian Griesel, Ph.D., and Tom Griesel, authors of the new books Turbocharged: Accelerate Your Fat Burning Metabolism, Get Lean Fast and Leave Diet and Exercise Rules in the Dust (April 2011, BSH) and The TurboCharged Mind (January 2012, BSH).
"That said, the most important thing you can do to improve your health is to eat more fruits and vegetables," says Dian. "They are the nutritional powerhouses, containing many vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and phytocompounds. According to many experts, there are probably more unknown than known compounds present that might make a difference."
"If you can afford the premium for organic, go for it," adds Tom. "Buy local when you can. Buy wild fish and meat that is antibiotic and hormone-free, but not necessarily organic. If you have eliminated all processed foods, which are the most expensive products sold and contain the least health-building nutrition, you should have some money left in your family budget to focus on, buy and eat quality foods. Good health is easier and less expensive than most people think."
