Well known environmentalist and Women & Child rights champion, Union Minister for Women & Child Development, Smt. Maneka Sanjay Gandhi explains the importance of making the shift to organic, "Organic foods have been proven to contain more vitamins, minerals and nutrients than similar foods produced with chemical fertilizers, pesticides and preservatives. Organic farming relies on techniques such as crop rotation, green manure, compost, and organic methods of pest control. Children are particularly vulnerable to the harmful effects of pesticide exposure."

Organic Products From Across India At Women of India Exhibition 2015

By The Ministry of Women & Child Development

From November 13--23 2015, New Delhi's Dilli Haat will be the site of India's biggest offering of organic products ranging from food, fabrics and furniture to  personal care and home décorOrganised by the Union Ministry of Women & Child Development, the ‘Women of India Exhibition 2015 – Organic Products’, celebrates and promotes women entrepreneurs from rural India. Participants from all across the country will have the opportunity to travel and stay in Delhi free of cost for the entire duration of the exhibition, and showcase their wares in the capital.

Not only will this benefit women entrepreneurs but promote the healthier option of organic food and products for consumers in Delhi, as well as across the nation. The Women of India Exhibition of Organic Products is intended to highlight the health and environmental advantages of organic goods, provide a platform for women engaged in it and encourage the development of sustainable and easily accessible sales outlets. The Ministry of Women and Child Development aims to follow up this initiative with quarterly exhibitions in different cities so that participants get more frequent opportunities to reach their products to an ever expanding audience.

Given the ever increasing interest in beauty and wellness and growing environmental awareness, this year's organic theme for its regular Women of India Exhibition is particularly relevant.  Organic options encourage consumers to adopt a healthier lifestyle and offer a means to protect the planet and its precious natural resources.

Children are particularly vulnerable to the harmful effects of pesticide exposure." Organic plants and food crops have also been found to contain higher amounts of salicylic acid which fights bowel cancer and the hardening of arteries that leads to heart conditions, strokes and other ailments.  Salicylic acid is produced naturally in plants to fight stress and disease. Pesticides inhibit the plant's ability to produce salicylic acid.

Economically too, organic farming is preferable. Organic agriculture ultimately reduces cost of cultivation by 20-40% and increases the income of farmers by improving quality of production as well as quality of soil. Better quality of produce fetches enhanced prices and adds 20-40% to profits. The income and savings of a farmer using exclusively organic methods in agriculture increases 50-100% since there is no investment in costly pesticides and fertilizers.

Organic farming protects your health and that of the earth. Research indicates that wild plants, wild species, and birds are much more abundant around organic farms than around conventional farms.

The Women of India Exhibition of Organic Products, 2015 will include manufacturers of Organic Products from Delhi, NCR and all Indian states, who will display a variety of Organic Products like Cereals, Pulses, Lentils, Millets, Staples, Spices, Oils, Honey, Tea, Skin-care, Hair-care, Bath-care, Beauty-care, Aromatherapy Products, Organic Cotton Fabrics, Linen, Solar Products, Edible Seaweeds, Organic Seeds and Bio-products, among others. Organic producers such as Navdanya, Organic Farmers Association of India (OFAI), Nourish Organic, The Altitude Store, Dew Drops, Organic World, Dubdengreen, Pure & Sure – Down to Earth, The Way We Were, The Kitchen Factory, Sonal WhiteCub are some of the participants in the Organic Extravaganza.
