​​​​​​​OrthoAtlanta is proud to serve as the official orthopaedic and sports medicine provider of the 2016 BB&T Atlanta Open, an ATP World Tour 250 event that runs Saturday, July 30 through Sunday, August 7 at Atlantic Station, in Midtown Atlanta, Georgia. The BB&T Atlanta Open has welcomed over 250,000 tennis fans to Atlantic Station over the past six years, establishing itself as one of the top ATP tennis events in the US. This year, John McEnroe joins BB&T Atlanta Open's celebration of the 20th anniversary of the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games! A seventeen-time Grand Slam Singles and Doubles Champion and U.S. Davis Cup Team player/captain, John McEnroe will play an exhibition match vs. Sergi Bruguera. Throughout the 9-day event, past and current Olympic stars will greet fans. The tournament itself is a mix of young upstarts and former and current ATP World Tour top-20 players. 

To share the excitement of world-class tennis with the Atlanta community, OrthoAtlanta is celebrating with its own BB&T Atlanta Open Ticket Giveaway. The online sweepstakes runs from July 1 through July 24, 2016, offering Georgia residents the chance to win the Grand Prize of two (2) tickets to the John McEnroe vs. Sergi Bruguera Exhibition Match to be held on Sunday night, July 31. First prize is a set of two (2) tickets to the Finals Match on Sunday afternoon, August 7, and second prize consists of two (2) tickets to the Semi-Finals match on Saturday afternoon, August 6. As the official orthopaedic and sports medicine provider of the BB&T Atlanta Open, OrthoAtlanta physicians serve as the key medical point of contact for the visiting players, coaches and officials during the tournament. Serving as co-Medical Directors of the 2016 BB&T Atlanta Open are OrthoAtlanta orthopaedic surgeons, Snehal C. Dalal, M.D., and Joseph S. Wilkes., M.D. Orthopedic services that are provided by OrthoAtlanta include physical therapy, examinations, non-operative treatments, consultation with the athletes and their coaching staff and referral to outside specialists when necessary.

“During the nine-day tournament, the players, coaches and officials rely on OrthoAtlanta to provide superior sports medicine expertise and service,” explained OrthoAtlanta orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Snehal Dalal, who is fellowship trained in hand and upper extremity surgery. Dr. Dalal is serving as co-Medical Director of the BB&T Atlanta Open. He has served in this capacity or similar, every year that the tournament has been held in Atlanta.

OrthoAtlanta orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Joseph Wilkes, board certified and fellowship trained in sports medicine and hand surgery is also serving as co-Medical Director for the prestigious BB&T Atlanta Open event. As Dr. Wilkes described, “OrthoAtlanta is actively involved in the medical operations planning and staffing plan which takes place in early spring. These efforts come together during the mid-summer event when OrthoAtlanta provides training room set-up, medical staffing, injury evaluations and treatment throughout the event. With the aid of ATP World Tour universal electronic medical records and ATP medical devices physiotherapists, we are able to perform follow-up treatments for the athletes when they arrive here as well as enter new illnesses and injuries sustained in Atlanta for subsequent medical teams to use after they leave.”

Dr. Wilkes has served as Chief Tournament Physician for the BB&T Atlanta Open and the previous Atlanta Tennis Challenge ATP event. Dr. Wilkes served as the Coordinator of Venue Medical Directors for the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games. He is particularly excited about this year’s BB&T Atlanta Open honoring former and current Olympians throughout the week, and the McEnroe v. Bruguera Exhibition Match.

OrthoAtlanta shares in tennis tournament fun throughout the nine-day event. The OrthoAtlanta booth in Vendors Village will feature daily promotions and giveaways, including Ladies Day on Thursday, August 4. On Tuesday’s College Night, visitors dressed in their favorite team apparel are encouraged to show us your school spirit and share photos on social media. OrthoAtlanta is honored to start play Thursday night with the Coin Toss.

The Ball Toss sponsored by OrthoAtlanta will be held on Friday night, August 5 just after gates open. An annual highlight of the BB&T Atlanta Open, ticket holders lob over 2,000 yellow tennis ball squeeze balls onto the court for a chance to win a $1,000 gift card.

About the BB&T Atlanta Open
The BB&T Atlanta Open is held each year in July in Atlantic Station and is one of eight summer tournaments in the Emirates Airline US Open Series. The tournament features men’s top world tennis players in singles and doubles competition.
